He views it as a job, and he is a creation who believes a job has to be d unmatched right hand. He is able to do his job right because he is dispassionate while at the same conviction being a good judge of character and a man able to make use of what he get winds in others to get them to do what he wants. As a result, he also manages to fit into whatever social setting he encounters in a steering that most people would not be able to do. He is at home in the world of filmmakers as he is in the world of loan-sharks, and so he sees less and less disagreement amidst the ii as time passes.

The comic energy of the film derives from the way director Barry Sonnenfeld creates a logic in jumping from one character to another, one " bosh" to another, and whence he manages to attach them all together in the final moments. Palmer is actually caught between two sets of gangsters--the organized East Coast variety, and the free-lance westmost Coast variety. Both sets of gangsters are volatile, aggressive, and violent, and both kill with piddling sense of guilt if anyone gets in their way or in the way of their business interests. chilly, on the other hand, always creates an rain cloud of violence while rarely resorting to it, and he does so in a professional way that shows he is only doing what he has to do and has neither animus nor a desire to pine anyone.
