August Wilsons Fences is about troy Maxon, an aggressive family stage who struggles to keep a successful relationship with his family and friends. He has spent the later part of his breeding trying to support his family and make sure that he fulfills his certificate of indebtedness as the man of the house, a far cry from what he had in his own abusive childhood. His harsh past has caused him to develop demanding relationships with most of the characters in the play, especially his son, Cory, and his wife, Rose. His own past has caused him to contribute a huge power struggle with his son Cory, a talented high school football player with a promising future. His own past constant failures and disappointments as a young black man cause him to make foul decisions towards Cory’s future and sparks many of the differences between the two family members. His wife, sexual climax from an unstable family herself, has only ever wanted to raise a happy family, yet he ruins that relationship by having an engagement with a woman named Alberta.
