The Ewells are considered to be one of the most dangerous families in Maycomb, no one ever messed with them. So right away when May Ewell told police that Tom Robinson pillaged her, the police arrested him. He was to remain in jail until his attempt date. On this night he needed protection, as he was being transferred from one jail to another and anyone can trance the opportunity and murder him.
