dignity is an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions. (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ boldness) This term is basically about how the !Kung Bushman keeps battalion in their tribe from becoming arrogant.
The article is about how Richard B. Lee went and bought an ox for the Tswana-Herero. Now he bought the strongest and fattest face ox and the whole tribe basically criticized him for it. He was so upset that the tribe was basically express that the ox he bought for them was crap. But in the end the ox was actually a good size and was full of fat/meat. The only ground they criticized him was because in their culture its a sign if arrogance if you brag about how big or how good something they catch is. For example if a young man was to go fly the coop and does in fact kill something he is not purge allowed to say he killed something. He must first inhabit for the Gaugo or another member if he did well. And when they do choose he has to say no I did not instruct much only a little thing. (Richard Borshay Lee 1968 Eating Christmas in the Kalahari pg. 3) They do this so that the young man does not become arrogant.
They also do not want him thought just because he has got the fattest or the best kill that he is the big man or chief or that he is superior to others. They want him to keep himself humble.
This article reminds me of a metrical composition by A Day to Remember called All I Want. There is a quote in there saying to Keep your hopes high and your head down low. It just content to have high hopes but still while you trying to achieve these hopes or dreams to make sure you humble yourself. No one likes some who is arrogant. I mean look at Kanye West. He is arrogant beyond belief and sure plenty like his music but not all people like him as a person.
