When they first came to the United States, African Americans were sold into striverry, which meant them or family members were auctioned to the slave owners. During the era of slavery most African Americans resided in the south, mainly in the rural areas (Lawson). Racial separatism was a system derived from the efforts of white Americans to keep African Americans in a subordinate status by denying them equal vex to public facilities and ensuring that blacks lived apart from whites (Lawson). African Americans not only struggled back in the day against racism. Racism is still alive and well today. As much as sight may like to regard that racism no longer exist it actually does. African Americans were treated un honorablely and had to go through things that most people cannot understand and guard never had to endure. The enduring fight and struggles to end racial discrimination plus attain equality and cultured rights will continue to be an ongoing battle for breathing and future African-Americans as it was for their ancestors who fought for freedom and the injustice of slavery.
