An Ethical Perspective
Introduction
The Open Source front man has recently gained a highly visible status, not only in the so-called computer geeks society, further also in the popular masses, thanks to the media. Names wish Richard Stallman, Linus Torvalds, and Mark Shuttleworth are putting growingly popular. Although this movement has been praised and supported by people from around the world, the enquiry into its associated ethical issues and related appraisal has been limited. Open source, in the simplest terms, implys parcel that gives complete granting immunity to its user. A closely realted movement is the Free Software movement. But, intrinsically, two these movements focus on software freedom. Free in this place setting stands for free- as in freedom, not as in beer, as Linus Torvalds puts it. The basic argument behind this movement is that a user must be able to use the software he pays for as he wishes to.
In this paper, I exploit to analyse the moral sides of Free and Open Source movement and how it can lead to increase in total welfare of the society.
1. ABOUT ETHICS
It is useful first to define a basis for this discussion by recalling some principles of ethics. I get out stay away from controversial issues and focus on loosely recognized ideas.
Ethics is about right and wrong. Human beings are equipped with an ability, partly innate and partly acquired, to judge homophile actions as morally good or bad. This does not mean that right and wrong mean exactly the same for everyone, only that everyone possesses a notion of right and wrong.
