Wilhelm Wundt began a laboratory in 1879 devoted to structuralism. To take his assumption of a basic structured mind, Wundt conducted experiments using self-examination. This diverseness of experiment delved into the elements of consciousness by studying memory, sensation, attention and learning. Wundt and his dude structuralists predicted that mental activity was a combination of such basic processes.
Psychoanalysis focuses and emphasizes on the unconscious mind mind. Sigmund Freud and other followers of the psychoanalytic theory assumed that the definition of psychology should include the unconscious. To that his predictions of the unconscious mind, Freud employ free association in his experiments.
That is, he had his patients speak freely and say whatever came to mind. He used this treatment often with neurotic patients. Freud also predicted dreams. Psychoanalysts believe that the unconscious mind stores memories of childhood and even painful events. These events, as easy as daily events are believed to be stored in the unconscious mind, relieving psychic tension in our dreams.
Behaviorism seeks for the cause of behavior in not the mind, but in environment. Disagreeing with other mental views, behaviorists study only observable facts.
