The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas is the news report of a Utopian formula whose survival depends on the being of a child who is locked in a small elbow room and mistreated. The story opens as the celebration of the Festival of Summer is acquire underway in the seat of government of Omelas. There is an air of material excitement about the festival, with its flag-adorned boats, reedy running children, prancing horses, and great merry clanging of the bells. The author, Ursula Le Guinn, uses huge imagery in describing the fine-looking scenery of Omelas in sound out to emphasize her theme of preference and what people lead allow go in order to be happy.
