In this poem he uses many poetic devices. Three poetic devices that he used be tomography, personification, and word choice. Imagery is visually descriptive or rhetorical language. The startle face of imagery in the poem is the early and second line. It says Sundays too my father got up early and accuse his clothes on in the blueblack unwarmed which makes me picture a man getting crap to start his day in the cold. Another practice session of imagery in the poem is in the prototypal stanza. It says then with batty hands that ached which makes me picture tough hands that ar near and dry. Personification is the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman. The first exercise of personification in the poem is in the second stanza. It says Id wake and acquire the cold splintering, breaking. The cold give the axet splinter and it raftt break.

The poet gave the cold a personal nature which do it personification. Word choice is a term used to calculate the words chosen by an author, using words that are very specific and descriptive of only what you desire to say. An example of word choice in this poem is in the first stanza. It says and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold. Blueblack isnt exactly a word. The poet put it unneurotic to help describe how cold it was. In conclusion the poet does an trenchant job of using these third poetic devices.
